"The purpose of hagiography is the reduction, from the perceivable to the imaginable, from the material to the spiritual and from the ephemeral to the eternal. Through hagiography all is depicted not as a sight but as a mystery."

PORTABLE ICONS

My painting theory and vision stems primarily from the painting style of Palaiologian Renaissance (1261-1453).At this era despite the general economic decline of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium), we see an unprecedented intellectual (movement of Hesychasm) and artistic (Palaiologian classicist style) bloom. In the painting of this period forms acquire volume and robustness. The color becomes vivid with continuous hot variations (red, ocher ....) and cold (blue, green ...) tons. The light becomes stronger (comparing to the previous periods) and rendered with bold geometric-angular formations. The compositions are monumental by adding a lot of persons, complex buildings, imposing mountains, rocks and trees. The faces are richer than before in expression (captured emotions, highlighting the asceticism and aging), to color, to light and some naturalistic features are added.

My technique is thus based on all the above artistic principles with respect to these old paintings standards and without any intention to hasty and frivolous innovations. I strongly believe that the painter must not flaunt with his work and ‘’yell’’ the specificity of his personal expression, but quietly, humbly and after many years of study his work could reveal his personal style. I particularly involved with the painting of icons by using the old technique of egg tempera but in some cases i can also use acrylic pigments .

WALL PAINTINGS

Apprenticeships and my job near my great mural Mr. Blaise Tsotsonis revealed the technique of painting with acrylic paints directly onto the wall or onto mousama.Epipleon near him taught a sense of mutandis forms in relation to the dimensions of the walls of temple and the iconographic program of orthodox painting tradition in combination with innovative syntheseis.Ton lately myoumai the difficult technique of fresco (fresco) that requires excellent knowledge of design, materials and color with my visits to Romania, near important teacher father Ilie Bobaianu. Crucial is my collaboration with the excellent Yannitsiotis illustrator Mr. George Papaioannou, who manages to combine harmoniously characteristics Palaiologian mural with contemporary issues, resulting in a painting motion traditional, yet modern and prototypi.Stin this site have the honor of hosting the great compositions from the life of St. Luke the physician and bishop Symferoupoleos and Crimea, which adorn the namesake chapel of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul Church in Giannitsa.
